FAQs

What type of editing do you do?
There are several different types of editing, ranging from a simple proofread through to full developmental editing. I will work with you to establish what level of editing you require and tailor my services accordingly to suit you.

Who will be editing my book?
Editorial services are never outsourced. All work is undertaken by me, Sally Silvester-Wood LLB (Hons) PgDip MSc, an experienced editor, proofreader and copywriter with a legal background and publishing experience. I am a linguistics specialist and speak several languages, although my editing services are provided exclusively in English.

How much control will I have over the final manuscript?
As the author you have the final say on everything, but I am here to offer guidance, advice and suggestions based on my knowledge of the publishing industry. I will work with you to produce a final, polished and saleable book to delight you and your future audience.

What does it cost?
The price of the project depends on the type of editing required and the length of your manuscript, however as a guide rates start at just £0.005 per word. You will receive a full proposal and costing and there are no hidden charges or fees – everything is set out and agreed up front. I also offer a sample edit so that you can decide whether we will be a good ‘fit’ before you proceed.

I don’t need a full edit. Can I have a proofread only?
Yes. My editorial services range from proofread only, through a light or minimal edit option, up to a full three-stage edit option which incorporates copy-edit, structural and developmental edit and proofread. If you feel your manuscript is ready to go and just needs a professional proofread, that’s fine. You don’t have to opt for any services you don’t need or want. I will tailor the proposal to suit your specific requirements.
